Having a breast augmentation can greatly improve self-esteem in these cases.rnrnAugmentation mammaplasty is expected to take approximately one hour, and will be performed under a general anesthetic (puts you to sleep). During this cosmetic surgery procedure, a small incision will be made. This is where the doctor will create a pocket in which the implant will be inserted.rnrnTypically, a breast implant can be inserted either under the breast tissue (over the muscle) or under the breast muscle (further below the breast tissue). With the intention of minimizing scaring, incisions can be made in either the armpit (transaxillary incision), along the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple known as the periareolar incision), or under the breast at the crease. Depending on the implant and surgeon\'s preference, an incision can also be made in the belly button to insert the implant (transumbilical breast augmentation or TUBA). The loss of skin elasticity with age (and sun exposure) allows the lateral and lower cheeks, which aren\'t tightly attached to facial bones, to \'sag\'. On either side of the chin are ligaments which hold the skin more tightly against the jawbone (mandible). This is where, and why, \'jowls\' develop. rnMany people develop both atrophy of soft tissues and slight recession of the mandible (jaw) between the chin and the jowl area, which serves to exaggerate the appearance of jowls. rnAs a major contributor to visible aging, the jowls are often the first significant “problem” that we face. Tightening this area will easily make you look both younger and slimmer. If neck skin is loose or redundant, a necklift can be added, with or without placation (simple tight fold) of the platysma muscle. This achieves a cohesive, crisp contour from the lower face to the chest.rnDr. Sikorski will make small incisions and mobilize the skin and soft tissues of the lower face and jawline (and in most cases, the neck), advancing them upward and laterally to eliminate sagging (jowls) and provide the appearance of improved skin tone. The excess skin is removed.rnActual removal of jowl fat can be done with liposuction, and this will reduce their size. This can be done alone or in conjunction with some form of a facelift. Liposuction aimed at reducing the fat causing saggy jowls usually involves a very small incision below the chin. This is a very common area for liposuction and an easy solution to excess fat under the chin and in the jowl.rnThe best candidate for a jowl lift is a man or woman who has experiences soft tissue atrophy and a slight recession of the mandible. Most patients are in their forties to seventies, but jowl lifts can be done successfully on people in their eighties as well.
